The Centre volleyball team snapped a five match losing streak with a pair of victories in five games over Kenyon College and Marietta College in the Centre Classic in Danville, Ky. on Friday. With the victories, the Colonels improve to 4-5 on the season.
In the first match of the day, Centre won the first game 26-24, dropped the second and third games 27-25 and 25-20 respectively before bouncing back to take the fourth game 25-20 and the fifth 15-13.
Freshman Suzanne Asbury (Louisville, Ky.) had 14 kills, six aces and three blocks. Senior Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) had 15 kills while sophomore Kim Lownds (Evergreen, Col.) and 13. Senior Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) had 49 assists, and senior Laura Hench had 23 digs.
In the second match, the Colonels alternated games with Marietta, taking the first, third and fifth games by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 17-15 respectively. Marietta won the second and fifth games 26-24 and 28-26.
Lownds led the team with 17 kills while Asbury and Woeste each contributed 12 kills and three blocks. Greer had 42 assists while Hench had 30 digs and sophomore Kary Stivers (Louisville, Ky.) had four aces.
The Centre Classic continues Saturday with seven more matches. Centre will take on Defiance at 10 a.m. and Fisk at 4 p.m.
