The Centre women's lacrosse team cruised to a 19-2 victory over Oglethorpe in a Southern Athletic Association Tournament quarterfinal matchup Saturday in Danville, Ky.
Led by five goals and three assists from Audrey Powers (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and five goals and two assists from Sarah Mastey (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Centre got out to a big lead early and left little doubt about the outcome.
After Oglethorpe scored an early goal to cut the Colonels' margin to 2-1, Centre rolled off the next 14 goals to take a 16-1 lead to the half, then scored the first three of the second half to lead 19-1.
Though it maintained possession through most of the second half, Centre went more than 20 minutes before attempting another shot, and Oglethorpe scored a final goal with 12 minutes remaining.
For the game, Centre took 41 shots to Oglethorpe's six. Allison Eisner (Louisville, Ky.) made one save for the Colonels before giving way to Francis Fisher (Ijamsville, Md.), who made her first appearance in goal late in the game and had two saves. Paige Falkowski had 12 saves for Oglethorpe.
The Colonels also held a 35-14 edge in ground balls, a 15-8 advantage in draw controls and turned the ball over 15 times to the Petrels' 27.
Centre improves to 14-2 on the season while Oglethorpe wraps up its year at 0-16. The Colonels advance to the SAA semifinal round where they will host Berry at noon Saturday. Before the next tournament game, Centre will finish its regular season with a trip to Transylvania on Tuesday.
